Early Last year Jayson Woodbridge, renowned global winemaker and owner of Hundred Acre and Layer Cake announced that Legendary winemaker Philippe Melka was joining his Layer Cake team. As if the Layer Cake wines were not outstanding enough as it were Philippe's addition to the winemaker lineup of Helen Mawson, Marc Nanes and Jason's brother Cameron only insures that the brand will continue to grow And the wines will continue to evolve. These high quality, handcrafted wines consist of a: 100% Old Vine Primitivo (Zinfandel) from Puglia, Italy, Shiraz from the Barossa Valley in South Australia, a Cotes Du Rhone from the Rhone Valley in France, a Malbec from Mendoza, Argentina and Layer Cake Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. The layer cake Label is a tribute to Jason's grandfather who instilled in Jason the idea that hat the soil where wine is grown is like a Layer Cake.

Layer Cake Cotes du Rhone is succulent and lush. Nearly opaque, the wine is a unique combination of rich, forward fruit more commonly found in wines of the New World, yet complimented by pleasing accents of minerality indicating Old World terroir. The wine is elegant and unctuous; a true food wine with balanced richness; offering flavors of wild blueberries, black currants, star anise, earth and history. Aromas of pre-Castro cigars, minerals and an underlying hint of savory herbs rise from the glass. This is a New World expression of Cotes du Rhone, wonderfully accessible the moment it is opened.

The wine is opaque and purple-colored with a nose of jammy black cherry and blackberry fruit, truffles, tar, and spice. Warm and rich in the mouth; the ripe fruit is well supported by the depth of the structure.
